Cannabis vs Hemp vs Marijuana

Cannabis, hemp and marijuana are all the same right? WRONG! Distinguishing between these three items causes the most confusion among consumers. Let's clear the air and educate ourselves on the differences between cannabis, hemp and marijuana. Cannabis is a genus of flowering plants. Essentially, it is the plant category that both hemp and marijuana fall under. Hemp is different from marijuana in its applications, chemical composition, cultivation and function. Let's explore more detailed differences between hemp and marijuana.

Hemp Differences

Hemp has significant differences from marijuana. We'll try to simplify some main points to better help you understand these differences. Hemp is cannabis with a low level of THC (<0.3%) that does not deliver a 'high' feeling. Cultivating hemp requires minimal care as the plant is adaptable to grow in most climates. Applications of hemp are mostly industrial uses. These uses include clothing, plastics, food, biofuel and oils. Hemp oil and CBD oil are the gaining momentum in the medical industry.

Marijuana Differences

Marijuana has significant differences from hemp. Here are a few differences to consider. Marijuana is cannabis with a higher level of THC that can reach 5%-40% depending on the strain. This will give you the 'high' feeling when inhaled or ingested. Traditionally, marijuana is grown in a controlled environment so the grower can generate a higher yield of THC. For the most part, marijuana is used recreationally. However, it is also known to have medicinal properties.

Why CBD Botanicals?

Hemp Plants

Our products come from hemp plants that are grown without pesticides or chemicals. The plants are grown on USDA certified organic land and the nutritional parts of our hemp plants are USDA certified organic.

Our Extraction Process

CBD Botanicals products use the Carbon Dioxide (CO2) method to extract CBD from the hemp plant. CO2 extraction is the most advanced technique and promotes a more natural product. Unlike other harmful CBD extraction processes, we do not use liquid solvents such as butane, ethanol, hexane, and isopropyl alcohol to procure our CBD oils.

Lab Tested

Our hemp and CBD products are third party laboratory tested. The lab uses a potency analysis by high performance liquid chromotography. This ensures that our clients are getting exactly what is advertised.

Pure CBD

Our CBD is derived from the flower, leaves and stalk of the hemp plant, not the seeds like Hemp oil. In addition to it's purity we only extract via the CO2 method, which is considered the highest standard in our industry as a cleaner extraction process.

What is THC?

'THC' stands for tetrahydrocannabinol. THC is the principal psychoactive in marijuana that produces the 'high' feeling when smoked or ingested. These psychoactive properties are the main reason why the federal government listed it under Schedule I in 1971, but reclassified to Schedule II in 1991 following a recommendation from the WHO. However, more states are legalizing the THC component for recreational use.

What Is CBD?

'CBD' stands for cannabidiol. CBD is one of the chemical compounds (known as Cannabinoids) that comes from the hemp plant. These Cannabinoids interact with the body's central regulatory system by binding to receptors to encourage specific chemical reactions. Some of these reactions promote conditions for mood changes, increased appetite and better sleep. CBD is non-psychoactive and does not make you feel 'high.'

Our Mission - From Our Founder

Welcome to CBD Botanicals. We’re passionate about the future of health and the role Cannabidiol will play in it. CBD Botanicals was founded with love after the loss of my mother to cancer. During her treatment, she was prescribed multiple medications that caused painful side effects.

She started taking CBD and it helped. However, her cancer had spread and she eventually lost her battle. While the loss was painful, I discovered there was a pain management alternative to the prescription medications she was provided. This knowledge instilled within me a personal mission to help provide a natural alternative from one of nature’s greatest gifts, hemp.

At the core, I believe that we can help those who are at their most challenging time in their lives. I can’t go back and change the fact that my mother didn’t have this opportunity. However, we can try our best to make sure that your loved ones do.
